Iraq: Prime Minister Lifts Ban on Flights To, From Kurdistan Region

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on March 13 lifted the ban on international flights to and from Arbil and Sulaimaniyah airports in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, NRT reported. Al-Abadi issued an executive decree to permit flights to resume within one week and said that the regional airports will be linked to the main system in Baghdad. Baghdad banned flights in the Kurdistan region following the September 2017 independence referendum vote, which the Iraqi Supreme Federal Court subsequently declared unconstitutional and void.
