Malaysia: Parliament to be dissolved April 6

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak is likely to announce that parliament will be dissolved on April 6 to pave the way for a general election, Channel News Asia reported April 3. Razak, who has been entangled in a multi-billion dollar corruption scandal, will have to secure a strong mandate against former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad. In the past few years, authorities have identified dozens of jihadist plots in Malaysia and the country has served as a logistics hub and recruiting center for several extremists groups operating in the Philippines.
