U.S.: Trump replaces Secretary of State with CIA Director

U.S. President Donald Trump has removed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson from his post and has replaced him with CIA Director Mike Pompeo, The Washington Post reported March 13. CIA Deputy Director Gina Haspel will take Pompeo’s place and become the first woman to serve in the position. It’s long been rumored that Trump was planning to replace Tillerson with someone whose views more closely aligned with his. The shake-up is notable for the significant effect it could have on the future of the Iran nuclear deal and the North Korean crisis.
