Turkey, U.S.: Countries Coordinating Efforts on Withdrawal of YPG From Manbij, Security

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told reporters that Turkey and the United States will oversee the withdrawal of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from Manbij in northern Syria, with U.S. soldiers providing regional security, Hurriyet Daily News reported March 13. Turkish and U.S. officials have already considered a draft plan for securing Manbij, and the foreign ministers of both countries will meet on March 19 to decide how to proceed. Cavusoglu added that Ankara would “monitor” the return of U.S. weapons that had been provided to the YPG — an issue that has contributed to already tense Turkish-U.S. relations.
